Seaweed is becoming an increasingly important material across food, packaging, agriculture, beauty, biomaterials, and climate technology, but it can be difficult to understand how these products, species, companies, and applications connect. I created The Seaweed Index as a way to bring that emerging field into one place.
I research and curate the platform, and designed and built it around three interconnected layers: a product directory, a species reference, and editorial stories. The structure allows people to move between products, materials, species, companies, and applications rather than encounter them as isolated examples.
The Seaweed Index launched in 2025 and continues to grow as the field evolves.
In May 2026, the project was exhibited at the Women in Design exhibition during SF Design Week at Gantri San Francisco.
